Description

Waiomo is a classic keeler designed by Arch Logan and built by Arnold (Bill) Couldrey at Sulphur Beach, Northcote, Auckland in 1935.

NEED TO KNOW:

40ft, Beam 2.51, Draft 1.6, Sleeps 5 (double birth X1, single birth X4) 16HP 2 cylinder diesel Shibaura engine X1 near new fully battened mainsail, X2 headsails, Copper fuel tank, Copper water tank Toilet - no holding tank, VHF radio Depth sounder - not fitted X2 12V batteries, Icebox, Kerosine stove, Panasonic stereo.

Waiomo has a good condition, fully battened mainsail and is a lovely, easy boat to sail. True to her class, she is great for cruising with the family or racing with a crew onboard. At just 40ft (27ft waterline), she is easy and economical to maintain.

She was launched as an A class in 1935 and converted to a K class in 1956. From the outset, she was a very successful racing yacht taking line and handicap honours in the 1935 Auckland to Tauranga in her first season. Her latest win was the first Wooden Boat in the Russell Tall Ships Race (2015), although recent years have predominantly seen her used as a cruiser.

Waiomo is constructed in the typical Logan method of 3 diagonal skins of kauri. She was extensively refitted in around 2000, at which time the hull was given a further Kauri skin and glassed over and generally refitted so that she is, structurally, in very good order.

Waiomo has recently come off the hard after having her top and bottom side repainted, including varnish. She is currently on a swing mooring off Opua in the Bay of Islands. The mooring can be made available to the purchaser for lease (the mooring is not for sale, sorry).
